SHREVEPORT, LA - Virginia Ann Inman "Nan" Colvin went to be with the Lord peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at her home in Shreveport after a lengthy illness. Services for Nan will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Rose-Neath Bossier Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Penuell. Interment will follow at Pilkington Cemetery, Benton, LA. Nan was born on January 30, 1951, in Atlanta, GA and spent her early childhood in Donalsonville, GA. In 1964 she and her family moved to Benton and she's called it home ever since. Nan graduated from Benton High School in 1969. She was an honor graduate and collected many honors and awards during her high school years. Nan held a B.A. Degree from Baptist Christian College and a Masters from Northwestern State University. Nan taught in Bossier Parish at Princeton, Haughton Middle and Benton Middle. She also taught for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Germany and QSI International School in China. Nan's philosophy of teaching was that, "All students deserve love and respect". Nan was a loving, caring person with an outgoing personality. She had a constant smile and a zeal for life. She never met a stranger. She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart, and had a great love for people. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her, because to know her was to love her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Waddell of Benton. Nan is survived by Valcar Colvin, her husband of 48 years, daughter, Ginger Gustavson and husband, Dave, son, Glen Colvin and wife, Megan, daughter, Valerie Quarles and husband, Toby, all of Shreveport; brother, Frank Inman of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Suzie Howell and husband Ronnie of Bossier City, sister, Linda Ford and husband Mike of Grayton Beach, FL, sister, Joy Creamer and husband Rick of Shreveport and sister-in-law, Cathy Gunstream of Haughton, LA. She also leaves behind grandsons, Sam and Jack Gustavson, TJ and Cal Quarles and Paul David Colvin; granddaughters, Faith Ann Quarles, Caroline and Catherine Colvin, Kristi Gustavson Harris and husband Craig and daughter Malin along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Honoring Nan as pallbearers will be her nephews, John Inman, Ross Inman, Spencer Inman, Jordan Carlson, Ben Ford, Michael Ford, Jr., and Grant Gunstream. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Legacy Senior Day Care and also Kathy Williams, owner of Angel Sitting Services, for all their help, love and kindness throughout Nan's illness.
