Norma Wardlaw Groesbeck

Norma was born on July 20, 1925 in the Vivian, Louisiana area. She lived her entire life in Northwest Louisiana and her adult life was spent in Shreveport, Louisiana. Norma joined the Parkview Baptist Church in Shreveport as a charter member with her close friend, Mamie Organ, while in her early 20's. She and Herman Groesbeck were married there in 1950. She was a member of that church until it closed several years ago. Norma had lived her last years with her niece, Barbara Edwards and great-nephew, Kevin in Gainesville, Missouri. She passed away at the age of 94 in the Gainesville Healthcare Center in Gainesville, Missouri. After graduating from high school, Norma took a business course in Shreveport, Louisiana meeting a good friend who ended up introducing her to a young man just back from WWII, Herman Groesbeck. They were married in 1950 and for over 60 years. She worked for a few years at Sears in Shreveport, but most of her working life was for Business Men's Assurance in Shreveport where she retired at age 62. Norma and Herman never had any children of their own, but they were involved with the children of Parkview Baptist Church. They entertained them for many weekends at their Bisteneau Lake house. They were both faithful members of that church for all their married life. After retirement, Norma taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for years with her faithful friend, Mamie Organ. After Herman's passing and Norma's declining health, she moved to Gainesville, Missouri to live with her niece, Barbara Edwards. That living arrangement helped her to flourish in her later years, only leaving because of health reasons. She passed away Monday, January 19, 2020 at the Gainesville Healthcare Center. Norma and Herman were a dedicated couple to their married life and their church. You always knew where to find them on most Sundays and many other days of the week.
