Olivia Stephens

Olivia Setzer Stephens, 94, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2018 in Bossier City, LA. She is survived by her daughter Caroline Stephens Dooling, son-in-law John Dooling; sister Anita Setzer Weaver; granddaughters Page Porter, Michelin Holmes, Elizabeth Askew, and Brittany Dunn; and grandsons Michael Cline, Jason Askew, and Kevin Dooling; great grand children Michaela Cline, Spencer Askew, Jessica and Hannah Askew and Landrie Dooling. She is predeceased in death by her sons Nolan Askew and Michael Askew, husband James Stephens, and brothers Albert, Gus, Noel 'Peck', Joe, Bernie and Troy Setzer. Olivia was born in Valliant, OK, June 5, 1924 to Cephas and Belle Setzer. She was a graduate of Valliant High School but also attended primary, secondary and high school in Haughton, LA. She resided most of her adult years in Bossier City, LA. Olivia's primary occupation in life was to love, care for and support her family, but was also employed at the National Bank of Bossier in the 1950's, as a private sitter for the elderly in the 1980s, and as Hertz Transporter through the 1990s until 2006. She was a member of Greenacres Missionary Baptist Church. Olivia played basketball in high school and was a lifelong fan of the sport. The family was often treated to her wonderful southern cooking as she often hosted fish fries, bar-b-ques and pizza/lasagna parties, not to mention annual Holiday parties and Thanksgiving/Christmas feasts. And none of us will forget her famous Chocolate Pie. Olivia kept her house and children spotless, and was an excellent seamstress. She was constantly sewing, and made literally hundreds of dresses and outfits for her baby girl Caroline. 'Granny', as she was known by her grandchildren, nurtured each of them and showered each with unconditional love and support. They will always remember their days at Granny's house and the memories made with her and Papa James. Olivia will always be remembered for her strength at times of adversity, and was greatly admired by her family for this trait. For her, it was ALWAYS family first. In her later years, she loved to tell stories about growing up in Oklahoma on the family farm, and in Louisiana at her Aunt Zett's home. She never let anyone forget that she was still THE BOSS. The family is eternally grateful to Ms. Cortrice Hossa and Ms. Fannie Dixon for their love, support and compassion, which allowed Olivia to continue to live in her own home until her last day on this Earth. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City at 2pm. Visitation will be held beginning at 1pm. Final resting place will be Hill Crest Cemetery, Haughton, LA.
