Rex Bain

Rex was born March 19, 1922 in Ida, Louisiana. He passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 at his residence in Shreveport, LA at the age of 98. A graveside service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Forest Park West Cemetery with Chaplain Dana Casey officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside Chapel. Rex was a member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1970 and a member of the Sunset Masonic Lodge # 438. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mamie Wynn Bain; his first wife of 55 years, Katie McDearmont Bain; brothers, Jim Noel, Billy Ray, Jake, Roy and Mac; sisters, Ludie Westbrook Stroud, Crystal Bond, Daisey Armstrong and Betty Tanner. Odds were against Rex in living through his childhood. At age of 4, he and his younger brother were very sick for several months. His brother passed away and an older brother was killed in a car accident at age 21. Rex was too sick and weak to be told about his brothers. At age of 5, traveling Highway 71 to Gilliam, LA he fell from the back of his grandfather's car. When missed by his grandfather and mother they turned back to search for him. A few miles back they found that a passerby had found Rex and was holding him. He had no broken bones but several abrasions leaving a permanent scar on his head. At age of 7, their family farm was flooded with the great flood of 1929. While riding behind his father on the back of a horse through the flood waters, the horse stepped off the bridge and all 3 fell into a bayou. Rex was unable to swim but saved his life by catching some tall weeds and pulling himself into shallow waters. LUCKILY all three survived. Rex served in the United States Navy during World War II where he was stationed at Makalapa, Hawaii with Cinpac Fleet Headquarters In 1973, he attended the annual meeting of Ashland Technology in New York City and was introduced as store manager at the Shreveport plant. He was awarded the Tiger Certificate for his work in receiving and storage and distribution of raw materials and shipping of finished products. He accomplished the annual inventory with no shutdown of the plant's operation. There was no loss of production or income during inventory for the first time in the plants history. Rex worked in Hartford and Unclesville, CN and Eire, PA moving inventory and equipment to the Shreveport area. He was employed with J.B. Beaird, AMF Beaird, Riley Beaird and retired with Ashland Technologies for a total of 38 years. Rex enjoyed quail and duck hunting, water skiing, traveling and spending time at their camp house on Lake Monterey. He is survived by his wife, June Culpepper Bain; sons, Jerry Bain and wife Teresa, Reggie Bain and wife Terry; daughter, Betty "BeBe" Samuels and husband Jack; Grandsons, Corey Samuels, Jacob Bain and Johnathon Bain; granddaughters, Jena Bain, Amy Duncan and husband Will, Jennifer Rodgers and husband Jimmy, Holly Free and husband Doug; eight great-grandchildren. Rex's family wants to extend a special thank you to Holly Free, Haley Bain and Amy Duncan for their unwavering care given to Rex.
