Graveside services for Richard Eugene Coker, 73, will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend McKee Williams. Richard was born on February 19, 1947 to Sebert Coker and Minnie Young Coker in Richlands, Virginia and passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Richard was born in Virginia and his father was a coal miner. His mother did not work and stayed home to raise five children. At a young age, Richard started as an apprentice carpenter and eventually became a specialty woodworker and he was known for the beautiful church doors and arched windows he made. He spent most of his working life at Windham Woodworks and retired from Allen Millwork in 2013. Richard was a loyal husband to his wife, Caroline Walker Coker, as well as a devoted caregiver to his wife's parents, Ellis and Ann Walker as well as her younger sister, Linda as they needed care over the years. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Hazel Coker Greer and brother, Lawrence Coker. He is survived by his wife, Caroline; sister, Mary Lou Coker Young and his brother, Raymond Coker. Honoring Richard as pallbearers will be members of the Queensborough Masonic Lodge #418 on Meriwether Road. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Ron Galbraith. The family would like to express special thanks to Tom Hudson and the Queensborough Masonic Lodge #418, Dr. Craig Miller and the critical care unit, radiation therapy unit and chemotherapy unit at Christus Highland Cancer Treatment Center and Hospital, to Reverend McKee Williams, Kelly Muslow, Derona and the entire staff at Rose-Neath Funeral Home for being so sweet and patient and a very special thank you to Ron and Patricia Galbraith for their loving care and support to Richard and Caroline. The family suggests memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.
