Robeline Martinez

Services for Robeline McBride Martinez will be held at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel Friday, January 29, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Officiating will be family member, Reverend Tommy Davidson, and friend of the family, Mark Hagerhjelm, Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church in Haughton, Louisiana. Robeline was called home January 26, 2021 at the age of ninety-three. Robeline, nicknamed by her friends as "Rosie", was born on December 9, 1927 in the family home in Athens, Louisiana to Emmett and Estelle McBride. She was one of seven children. She grew up on their farm and learned to pick cotton with the rest of her family. Robeline was known as the "BEST" to pick the cotton, as she could pick twice the load of her siblings. After graduating from Athens High School at the top of her class, she moved to Shreveport. She met Clifton Joseph Martinez, and they were married in August of 1953. They remained married until May 1988 when she lost Cliff to heart disease. Robeline and Cliff were proud parents of their two children and taught them to be honest, dedicated, hard workers. Their oldest daughter, Pam, graduated from LSUS with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She retired from the federal clerk's office as Division Manager of the Western District of Texas after thirty-three years of service. After high school, their youngest daughter, Micki, went on to become a registered nurse and has worked for Willis Knighton Medical Center for thirty-eight years. Both of Robeline's girls will tell you their parents helped them to become who they are today. Robeline's greatest source of pride are her two granddaughters, Mallory Danielle and Abigail Kathleen Browning. Her love for them cannot be measured. Mallory is a physician completing her residency in Jackson, Mississippi. Abigail graduated from Bossier Community College and is an administrative assistant for Bossier Parish Libraries. Mallory and Abbie will cherish their memories with their grandmother and forever miss their "MEME". Robeline was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett A. McBride and Laura Estelle McBride; sisters, Mildred Pate of Ruston, Louisiana and Eula Faye Cole of Gibsland, Louisiana; brother, Collier McBride of Athens, Louisiana; and her loving husband of thirty-five years, Clifton Martinez. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Edna Fern Zappa of Athens, Louisiana and Juanita Frye and husband James of Gibsland, Louisiana; brother, Kennon R. McBride and wife Vivian of Athens, Louisiana; daughters, Pam Murphy and husband Brian of Grandbury, Texas and Micki Browning and husband Charles of Bossier City, Louisiana; her two precious grandchildren, Mallory and Abigail Browning; and many loving nieces and nephews, along with a host of special friends. Pallbearers will be Charles Browning, Barry Dobbins, Ken McBride, and Jessie Albright. Her daughters, Pam and Micki, would like to recognize Robeline's special friend and neighbor for many years, Barbara Lafitte. Barbara was dedicated to helping her with anything she needed and enabled her to stay in her own home much longer than anyone would have anticipated. They are grateful for everything she did to help their mother. The family would also like to recognize the Bloom of Bossier Assisted Living Facility, Golden Gate Nursing for private care staff, and Heart of Hospice. Robeline received excellent care during her stay at The Bloom. In lieu of flowers, her children suggest that donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
