Arcadia - Funeral services for Retired Judge Robert Y Butler will be held at Rose Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, Louisiana on Saturday December the 10th. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with the service to follow at 2 p.m. Robert Y. Butler was 80 years old when he passed away on Wednesday December 7th, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born March 2, 1936 and was adopted by Thomas and Lelia Roden Butler of Arcadia, La. His family was associated with the Butler Grocery Store in Arcadia, Louisiana for many years. Robert Y. Butler (Bob) was a member of the 1954 graduating class at Arcadia High School. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Business Administration in 1958. He accepted a position with the Trust Department of First National Bank in Shreveport. He later applied for Law School at LSU in Baton Rouge where he was accepted in 1961 the same year he married Jimmie Ruth Hunter of Shreveport. He graduated from LSU School of Law in 1964 then returned to work at the Trust Department at First National Bank in Shreveport. He later transferred to a Law Firm in Shreveport, Louisiana. This experience paved the way for his return to Arcadia, Louisiana in 1966. He began a private practice firm that was quickly expanded. He served as the Assistant District Attorney for several years before being elected a District Judge for Bienville, Claiborne, and Jackson parishes where he served for over 21 years. He retired December of 2000 along with his secretary of many years Ms. Shirley Smith. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jimmie Ruth Hunter Butler, his sister Margaret Ann Simpson, three nephews Tommy Simpson, Barry Simpson, and Chris Simpson. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Ted Hunter and wife Martha of Shreveport. He was very fond of his wife's nephews and niece, Keith Carter, James Hunter, and John Hunter all of Shreveport, Craig Carter of Kansas City and Chyrisse Carter Miller of Austin, Texas. Robert Young Butler was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Arcadia, Louisiana. He was a former member of the Lions Club. He served on the Board of the Arcadia Library and the former Citizen's Bank. He was a member of the American Bar Association.
