Robert Harold Hawkins was born April 21, 1924 to William Walter Hawkins and Bessie Boykin Hawkins in Raleigh, Mississippi. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942, touring North Africa, Sardinia, and Corsica. While on leave he married Anna Bell Richardson, April 27, 1944, before returning to Calcutta, India. He served in WW II for four years, eight months, and one day. Upon his return to the states he joined the Army Reserve and worked at United Gas Pipeline Company in Shreveport, La. until the company relocated to Houston, Tx. He was called into duty again during the Korean Conflict to issue uniforms to new training recruits for another 10 months and 22 days. Robert and Annie had one son, Robert Michael Hawkins, born November 16, 1952 in Jackson, Mississippi. Robert was active with his family in archery, fishing, hunting and fly tying. He restored a 1928 and 1929 Ford A Model and was a member of the ArkLaTex Classic Cars and Antiques Club. He was a member of the North Louisiana and East Texas Fly Fishing Clubs. He was also a Shriner and 32 Degree Mason. After retiring from United Gas, Robert worked as a sign inspector for the city of Shreveport. He moved to Longview, Tx. In October of 2013 to be near his son after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He died peacefully on December 1, 2019 after a brief stay in the hospital. Robert is the last to survive of his nine siblings. He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Annie; parents; eight brothers, Hilliard, Jesse, John, Ralph, Kelly, Jimmy, Mack, Donnie, As well as his beloved sister, Mary Cole. He is survived by his son, Mike Hawkins and daughter in law Renee; granddaughter Annie; great grandson, Tyler; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, La. Burial will be at noon on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport, LA. In lieu of flowers the family ask for donations to East Texas Alzheimer's Alliance in Longview, or Project Healing Waters.
