Rodney Maurice Bellar passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at his home in Haughton, LA following a lengthy illness. A service celebrating his life will be held this Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA. The family will receive friends and family immediately prior to the service at 10:00 am. Interment will be at the Plain Dealing Cemetery in Plain Dealing, LA
Mr. Bellar was born on August 31, 1940 in Smackover, AR, but grew up in his beloved Plain Dealing. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Jerelyn Coker Bellar, daughters, Jana Bellar Subias-Marston and husband Mark and Christa Bellar McFerren and husband Kevin, grandchildren Logan Wade McElhaney, Peyton Ross McElhaney, Ashtyn Claire McElhaney, Ava Caroline McFerren, Anthony Leonardo Subias-Marston, Isabella Maria Subias-Marston, and Cole Brian Subias-Marston. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Edith Brown, Will F. Bellar and wife Dennis, and Bobby Jim Bellar and wife Susie, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Willis and Curtis Emory Bellar, Sr., two brothers, Curtis E. Bellar, Jr. and Melvin L. Bellar and his sister, Pauline Bellar Lloyd.
Rodney graduated from Plain Dealing High School in 1959 where he excelled in track and also had the distinction of never having missed a day of school in the history of Plain Dealing High School. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA. He was a communication engineer for AT&T and retired in 1999 after 35 years of service. He also served in the Army Reserve from 1963 to 1969.
Rodney will be remembered by all for being the most unselfish, giving person who willingly helped anyone at any time, always putting the needs of others before his own. He loved his family beyond measure and leaves a wonderful legacy that will be remembered by all who love him. His long battle with cancer is over; he fought a good fight, he has finished the race, and he kept the faith.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Crawford, Riley McElhanon, Glenn Rodgers, Joel Rodgers, Kevin McFerren, Mark Subias-Marston, Kevin McElhaney, and Peyton McElhaney.
