HAYNESVILLE, LA: Ruby Heard, 78, of Haynesville died Sunday, July 22, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born May 25, 1940 in Bernice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidner and Frank Herring of Bernice, her husband, Horace of Homer, her brother Bobby Herring of Bernice, her sister Betty Doss of Hico, and granddaughter Ashleigh Dunn of Minden.
She is survived by her sons Richard and wife Tea', Robert and wife Terrie, Casey, and Nat and wife Jessica. Her sisters Joyce Mills, Patsy Slack, and Sue Chandler. Her brother Frank "Bubba" Herring. Grandchildren Mitzi Koeppl and husband Chris, Carson and Cason Heard, Ellis Heard, Leah Walker and husband James, Lori Harvey, Daniel Speer and wife Anna, and grand son-in-law Mark Dunn. Great grandchildren Greyson and Adilynd Koeppl, Cassidy Walker, Ethan and Tristan Harvey, Jackson Bailey, Jackson, Bennett, and Stella Speer, Madeline and Lola Dunn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruby was the epitome of a Southern Belle. Her family came first, she always looked her best, and she taught her boys to work hard and how to do most anything a girl can do. She wasn't afraid to work hard and get dirty. Coffee was always on, she was a great cook who could whip up a seven course meal out of nothing in a few minutes, no one left her house without being fed or at the very least a to-go bag. She did her best, she made a difference, and she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Heard at Ruple Baptist Church near Homer, LA, on the 25th day of July, 2018, at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Jerry Gill, officiating. Interment followed at Ruple Cemetery. The family received friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Homer, LA, on Tuesday, the 24th of July from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Pallbearers were Mark Bays, David "Buzzard" Sanders, Jamie Ruple, Mike Green, George Sanders, Jr. and James David Walker.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. Heard, her family suggests Gideon International.
