Ruth Earline Carr, 96, died on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 in Newcastle, OK. She was born Nov. 26, 1922, in Shreveport, LA, to Robert E. and Ruth (Sibley) Ellzey.
Earline accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age, and was baptized in a creek near her home, which was in Florein, LA, at the time. The family returned to Shreveport soon after that and she finished school there graduating from Byrd High School. She became a stenographer and was civilian personnel at Barksdale Army Air Base in the early 1940\'s where she met the love of her life, William A Carr, of Clearfield, PA. Their courtship was carried on primarily through the mail as he served in England and North Africa through World War II, and they were married about a month after he returned home, in June 1945. She spent the early years of their marriage as a homemaker, focusing on raising their two sons, and caring for her handicapped sister. She eventually returned to work outside the home, initially as stenographer for a law firm, then for the Federal government, from which she retired. Earline and Bill shared 60 years together before Bill passed away in 2005. They were long-time members of Brookwood Baptist Church in Shreveport where they worked with the youth and taught Sunday School and Training Union. In 2002 they moved to Oklahoma where they joined Snow Hill Baptist in Tuttle. The family would like to thank the staff and members of both these congregations for the love and ministry that they have shown to Bill and Earline through the years, as well as the staff at Encompass Hospice who helped care for her in recent months.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Jean Ellzey.
