Sara Jane Dick

Remarkable people are hard to find, and the Dick family mourns the loss of a remarkable woman. Sara Jane Dick, known to most as Mamaw Sara, was born on April 11, 1942 in Shreveport, Louisiana and entered into heaven on Thursday, November 14, 2019 after an unsuccessful battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Janie Elizabeth Perry and Harry Edward Perry. Sara traveled endlessly, enjoying cruises and road trips with her husband, many of her grandchildren, and her friends. Many of her best stories started with "On board ship, we..." and she was never afraid to tell you how she felt about any topic. She was fiercely loyal to her friends, especially members of her church, or the women wearing Red Hats. Sara was most proud of her husband, three sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, telling anyone who would listen about her family and each of their accomplishments. Standing by her side for 58 years, she and her husband, Papaw Sonny, were always ready to travel to any event for family, no matter how big or small. None knew how amazing she could be like the children of the family. Mamaw Sara always had a treat ready in exchange for a hug. Her Christmas bags full of gifts were something no child could ever forget. Those that came into the family as adults watched in pure jealousy as the children dove into these bags that were so big that they would practically disappear inside of them. She loved spending time with her Red Hatters, playing Bunco, and participating in events at her church, St. Luke's Methodist Church. Sara was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, William Maurice "Sonny" Dick; her three sons, Edward Lloyd Dick and wife, Lori, Christopher Jay Dick and wife, Dianne, and William Michael Dick and wife, Lisa; her brother, Harry Edward "Bubba" Perry and wife, Janis; her 10 grandkids and 7 great-grandkids as well as cousins, and a host of nieces and nephews.
