Sonny Duschel

HAUGHTON, LA - On November 9, 2014 Oscar Fowler Duschel's life ended upon this earth. He left behind a beloved family and a host of friends. A service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City. Officiating will be Rev. Gevan Spinney. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Oscar and Golda Duschel and three sisters, Fay Dowell, Wanda McDonald and Lillian Christ. To cherish his memory are his wife of 49 and a half years, Betty; his son, David; daughter-in-law, Jana; grandson, Blake; a host of nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law, Robert McDonald and Donald Christ. Sonny had a zest for life and a love for people. He was Uncle Sonny to his friends as well as his family and everyone had tales to tell about Uncle Sonny. Few escaped a nickname which soon stuck. Tim became "Jack" and Bill became "Pete" Some were completely original and hard to pronounce. Common words were not left out, eggs were cackle berries, milk was cow squeezings and the list goes on. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter. Only one called him "Papaw" and Sonny made sure Blake received a Louisiana lifetime hunting and fishing license offered to children. This was given to Blake long before he could hold a fishing pole or shoot a gun. As time moved on, comradery replaced the deer hunt and the fishing boat. Sonny was co-owner of Colvin and Duschel Plumbing Co. and served many years on the board of the Village Water System. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Korean War. He marched with his company at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Honoring Sonny as pallbearers will be, Glen Mancuso, Gary Duke, Christon Duke, Jeffrey Duke, Cody Duke, Daniel Duke and Cameron Duke. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Sonny's name to First Baptist Haughton, 105 East Washington Ave, Haughton, LA 71037.
