Stena DiStefano Tuminello

SHREVEPORT, LA - Stena DiStefano Tuminello passed away on July 3, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Monsignor Earl Provenza and Father Thomas John will be officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Stena was born on October 13, 1930 in Cefalu, Italy. Her family came to the United States when she was just 1 year old, living in Baltimore, MD and then making their home in Shreveport in 1938. Stena attended St. Mary's School and then graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1949. She worked at United Gas for many years until she married John J. Tuminello in September 1957. She and Johnny had two children, whose lives she was deeply devoted to. During their school years she was very involved at St. Theresa's Elementary and St. John Berchmans School, where she made many lifelong friends. In 1977 Stena started working at St. Vincent's Academy as the school secretary, where for many years she was affectionately known as "Mrs. T". She remained friends with the nuns, her coworkers and students long after the school closed. She then went to work at Caddo Magnet High School for Ascension Smith, a job she enjoyed until her retirement. Stena's passion was her cooking, which she loved to share with her family and friends. She was very meticulous with her house and yard. Bobtail Drive will not be the same without seeing Mrs. T. with a broom in her hand. Stena will also be remembered for all the candles she lit for friends and family over the years. Whether it be a big or small request for someone, her candles always seemed to do the job! Stena was a devout Catholic with such strong faith and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her friends in the ladies guild were so special to her. Special thanks to her friends who brought her daily communion. Stena was preceded in death by her daughter, Rose Mary Tuminello, her husband, Johnny, and her parents, Joe and Tena DiStefano. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Tina McGill and her husband, Casey (her most devoted son-in-law), her son, Joseph Tuminello; grandchildren, Grace Anne and Sadie McGill, who were MiMi's pride and joy; sister, Rose Provenza and her husband, Johnny; brother, Joe DiStefano and his wife, Carolyn; her sister-in-law, Marie Edmiston and her brother-in-law, Glenn Price; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. Honoring Stena as pallbearers will be Michael Provenza, Dr. Mark Provenza, Steven Provenza, Joseph Paul DiStefano, Willie Martinez, Gregory Cancilleri and Don Turner. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 4736 Lyba Street, Shreveport, LA 71109. The family would like to thank Stena's family and friends who have been there for her and us, whether it be a phone call or a visit or prayers, all are greatly appreciated.
