Steven Craig Taylor

Steven Craig Taylor, 58, also known as Taylor Man, was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 10, 1963. He departed his earthly home on September 20, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior on December 12, 1976. After graduating from Woodlawn High School, Steven worked offshore for seven years. During Hurricane Juan, Steven and one other person volunteered to stay on the rig so that the other crew members could get to shore safely as the helicopter could not get back. To hear him talk about it afterwards, he enjoyed the experience. After working on an oil rig, Steven started his construction career with Whitaker Construction and also worked for Brown Builders, Hand Construction, and McInnis Brothers as a Superintendent, and Cajun Constructors as a Foreman and Master Carpenter. When he moved back from Shreveport from Baton Rouge, he became an Independent Contractor. Building was his passion. He was a perfectionist in his work and enjoyed teaching others his skill. Many family members and friends benefitted from his giving nature. One of his most recent projects was building his friend a new home and for his nephew's wedding, he built an old timey working camera projector. Steve enjoyed drag racing in his 1976 red Camaro and starting from an early age, Steven's hobby was building models. His home was filled with battleships, tanks, cars, and 18-wheelers that he built which he proudly displayed and was often shown to guests. Left to cherish his memory is his loving mother, Joyce Johnson Taylor; sister, Stacey Taylor Conklin and husband, Randy; nephew, Taylor Conklin and wife, Ashley; niece, Victoria (Tori) Conklin; Uncle Royce Johnson and wife, Patsy; four-legged Scottie sister, Mandy; and a host of cousins and friends. Preceded in death are his courageous father, Johnny Neil Taylor; and brother, John Marc Taylor; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Nona Johnson; and fraternal grandparents, Glen and Lil Taylor. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park East, 3700 St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Brother John Harp of Brookwood Baptist Church, Lonnie Moore, Chaplain of St. Joseph Hospice, and the Eulogy will be given by cousin, Derrick Keith Johnson. Honoring Steven as pallbearers will be Randy Conklin, Taylor Conklin, Derrick Keith Johnson, Scott Johnson, Jeff Flagg and Tim Weglowski. The family would like to express special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice nurse, Jessica and Chaplain Lonnie Moore. The moment that you left me, my heart split in two. One side filled with memories, the other side died with you. I often lay awake at night when the world is fast asleep and take a walk down memory lane with tears upon my cheek. Remembering you is easy; I do it every day; but missing you is a heartache that never goes away. I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will remain. You see, life has gone on without you, but it will never be the same. Steven, you were always a warrior battling cancer courageously and with dignity. You never let others know how hard the cancer was taking a toll on your body. Thank you for being your mom's and sister's source of inspiration and said with love, your aggravation. You certainly did life your way. We love you dearly always and forever.
