Travis McCracken

GREENWOOD, LA - My free spirit, Travis McCracken, 66, passed peacefully in his sleep September 17, 2014, in Greenwood, LA. Travis was born in Carthage, Texas, November 4, 1947, to the late Roy W. and Ollie Hodge McCracken. He adopted the motto "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive shell and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and yelling, WOO HOO, WHAT A RIDE!" Travis lived an interesting, passionately involved and lovingly large life. He earned his Bachelor's in Social Sciences. Travis served as an Alderman at Large on the Greenwood City Counsel where he strongly vocalized his opinions. He loved playing Santa Claus at Tripp's Library and in Greenwood, for he believed in Santa. Travis was a Drug and Alcohol Counselor at Vietnam Veterans of San Diego for many years. He cherished his time and the people there, many of whom still keep in touch. He served this grateful nation by joining the U.S. NAVY during Vietnam. Travis loved his veterans and his AA community having 23 years clean and sober. He will be missed so very much by Tripp; he was her Favorite Guy and life partner. Tripp will never take for granted the love and blessing of having him in her life. So many adventures behind us and we thought there would be so many more to come. Travis made a difference beyond measure to Tripp, those who loved him and the world. He mattered, plain and simple, and he will be missed beyond words. Consider his life well lived!
Travis was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Jim McCracken. Left to Cherish the wonderful memories that Travis leaves behind will be his beloved wife of 41 years; Caren "Tripp" McCracken, one son; Tim McCracken and wife Rene`, three beautiful granddaughters; Samantha, Claire, Audrey McCracken, one sister; Mona McCracken, along with numerous extended family members and many great friends.
