Vada Kirk

Shreveport, LA - Vada Matthews Kirk peacefully passed away on January 13, 2020. Vada was 98 years old and resided at The Chateau at Montclair. A private graveside service was observed by immediate family. Vada was born on March 16, 1921 to Aaron and Jennie Matthews of Evelyn, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Cotton Valley High School and Charity Hospital School of Nursing. She retired after twenty-five years of service as head of nursing at LSU out-patient clinics. Although retired from nursing, she continued to use her gift of care giving to nurture those around her. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was lovingly referred to as "Sweet Nana" Vada is survived by her daughter Jyoti (Jeneane Kirk) and husband Russell Parks of Guerneville, California, and son Les Kirk and wife Paula of Shreveport, Louisiana. Her grandchildren are Kirk Wicks of San Jose, California; Scott Wicks and wife Dayna of Montara, California; Jason Kirk and Chris Kirk and wife Kristin of Shreveport; and Melanie Kirk Crozier and husband Cory of Fairhope, Alabama. She is also survived by sister Lottie McGuire of Shreveport. She has five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jesse Kirk, whom she married in 1946, and her great granddaughter Dyllan Wicks; sisters Jean Frazier, Agnes Sadler, and Betty Lundy; and brothers Fred, Aaron, and Drew Matthews. Vada was a faithful member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. The family gives thanks to Dr David Abdahou and the staff of The Chateau's; the staff of Home Health Professional Assistance; the staff of Southern Care Hospice and longtime caregivers and friends - Sherry Harris and Ebony Sanders.
