Vivian Henderson

Arcadia - Vivian Grigg Henderson passed away peacefully at her home in Arcadia on December 1, 2015. Nicknamed \"Tippy\" by her Grandpa White, called \"Aunt Baby\" by her nieces and nephews, she was the third child born to Ivy and Velma Grigg on May 4, 1925. She grew up in the piney woods of Bienville Parish and graduated from Bienville High School. Her husband would later say that he had married the prettiest girl in Bienville, but would then add that there were only two of them. Vivian married the love of her life, Hal Redwine Henderson, on December 31, 1945, after he returned from service as a Navy pilot in World War II. The couple then moved to Baton Rouge where Vivian supported the young family while her husband attended law school at Louisiana State University. She often said that she believed that her name must be somewhere on that diploma. Upon his graduation in 1950, the family made their home in Arcadia where Vivian worked for many years as office manager and retired from Kilpatrick Life Insurance Co. Her passion in life, however, was her role as wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in the community and served in various capacities at First Baptist Church of Arcadia where she had been a member since 1950. For many years previously, she served the Arcadia community and First Baptist Church Arcadia Bereavement Committee Chairman to organize and prepare meals for families who had lost a loved one. Miss Viv was one feisty Lady who will be remembered for her tenacity and good humor. She faced her final illness with grace and dignity. Vivian is preceded in death by her parents Ivy and Velma Grigg; a brother, Beuford Lamar Grigg; a sister, Evelyn Grigg Watson; and her beloved husband, Hal R. Henderson. She is survived by a son, Larry Henderson and wife Cathy; a daughter Lesa Henderson; grandchildren Ashley Kowolski and husband Chris; Katelyn Henderson; Lane McGaha and wife Annie; Wade McGaha and wife Dana; great grandaughters Macy and Layla McGaha; and so many nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, December 4, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Arcadia on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. Pall bearers will be Lane McGaha, Wade McGaha, Chris Kowolski, Henry Futch, Eric Watson, and Ron Whitaker. Honorary pall bearers are Joe Storey, Curtis McCrary, Ray Gaudet, Billy Nutt, and Larry Neal. The service is to be officiated by Reverend Jeff Hoffman. Burial is to follow at Arcadia Cemetery. The family requests that any donations be made to First Baptist Church of Arcadia, 2249 Hazel St., Arcadia, LA 71001.
