Wesley Lamar Cates

Graveside services for Wesley Lamar Cates, 91, will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Brother Gary Boswell. Wesley was born on December 25, 1929 to Shelton Jones Cates and Katherine Oden Cates in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in Greenwood, Louisiana. Wesley was a resident of Greenwood and retired as a line worker from General Electric. Prior to GE, he worked as a dairy farmer and for the telephone company. He was a very hard worker his entire life. He served in the United States Marines from January 1947 to January 1950. He was a people person and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved his family and the Lord. He was a Deacon at Westview Christian Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church and Broadacres Baptist Church over his lifetime. Wesley is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and five sisters. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 68 years, Olga Camille Jones Cates; sons, Wesley Cates, Jr., Michael Cates and wife, Daphne; and daughter, Brenda Johns; grandchildren, Cody Cates, Shane Cates, Danielle Beavers and Krista Cates; 9 great-grandchildren.
