A memorial service to honor the life of Whitfield Stanley “WS” Steadman will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 22, 2020 at First Seventh-day Adventist Church, 6475 Westport Ave. Shreveport, Louisiana. WS, also known by many as Stan, was 90 years old. He was born November 6, 1929 in Natchitoches parish and passed from this earth on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. He was a resident of Marthaville, LA.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Mary (Cox) Steadman; one daughter, Mary Dorenda Steadman; two sisters, Sammie Baul and Gene Campbell and two brothers, Pierce and Hayward Steadman.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, BJ (Betty) Steadman; one daughter, Jeanie Steadman Andrade & husband, Alex of Belo Horizonte, Brazil; two sons, Stanley & wife, Delina of Hineston, LA and Roger Lane & wife, Robin of Keatchie, LA.; four grandchildren, Roger Steadman, Colton Steadman, Justin Steadman and Sarah Steadman; one step-daughter Tina Pride; one step-grandson Cameron Miller and wife, Suzie; two great grandchildren, Irelynn Penalber and Lorelei Steadman and two brothers, Reed Steadman and Sam Steadman.
WS served 47 years of dedicated law enforcement. He served as Military Police in the Air Force from Jan 1951 – Dec 1954 in the 805th Air Police Squadron. He was recipient of National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He also served in the Korean War. After leaving the Air Force, he served the Shreveport Police Dept from Feb. 1955 to Jan. 1978 where he retired as Captain. He then served as Airport Authority supervisor from March 1978 – March 1998.
WS was a very talented wood carver and sculpted many beautiful pieces and won awards for his carvings.
