Wilbur Shoemake Jr.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Wilbur Shoemake, Jr, 87, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday September 23, 2018 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Brother Jeff Hoffman and Kenneth Warren. Visitation will be held before the service from 2:00 p.m. until the service. Wilbur was born on December 1, 1930 in Atasoca County, Tx. He passed away August 28, 2018 at Garden Park Nursing home in Shreveport, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Maggie Shoemake; brother, Aquiliar Shoemake; sister, Jean Bonugli; his wife and the love of his life, Peggy Killlian Shoemake and daughter, Rhonda Shoemake. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Teri Stadtlander, Lisa Shoemake and Diane Gleeson; granddaughter, Mallory May and husband Cameron; great granddaughter, Lexee May who he adored; family, Betty Walters, Mike Walters, Debbie and Jackie Robinson and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilbur was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. If it was hunting season, he was in the woods. That love extended into making guns, knives and reloading his own ammo. He also enjoyed working in his shop - on anything. He loved to make stuff or fix it. He was a plumber by trade and a lifelong member of Local 141 Plumbers and Steamfitters. He moved to Garden Park in 2015 where he made numerous friends with staff and residents and had daily hugs for everyone of them. He said on more occasions than we can recall that if he couldn't be home, there was no place better he could be. Our thanks to literally everyone at Garden Park for making this part of his life more special than we could have hoped for. We are thankful for the friends he made and the ones who regularly visited him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Shriner\'s Hospital.
