William Hyatt

William "Rod" Hyatt, age 65, of Shreveport passed from this life on July 13th 2019 after a brief illness. Rod was born in DeQuincy, LA on November 10 1953. He graduated from McNeese State University with a nursing degree, and later attended St. Joseph's School of Nurse Anesthesia in Lancaster, PA where he met his wife Laura. As a nurse anesthesist, he served in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Colonel and also worked in several local hospitals. A faithful Christian, Rod served as a deacon at University Church of Christ, occasionally preaching, and for many years brought Communion to shut-ins. He also served on the board of Bossier KIDS, a foster care ministry. Rod enjoyed singing barber-shop with the River City Jubilee Chorus. He loved the outdoors: riding his motorcycle, fishing, and playing golf. William "Rod" Hyatt is survived by his wife Laura, of 36 years; his three sons Dustin (and wife Eliza), Jesse, and Patrick; his father Ray Henry Hyatt of DeQuincy, LA; his brothers Hank, wife Nanci of Sulphur, LA, and David, wife Carleen of Westlake, LA. In addition, Rod left behind a large and loving extended family. Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath funeral home, Marshall St., Shreveport on Monday July 15th from 5-7 pm. Funeral services are planned Tuesday, July 16th at 10 am, University Church of Christ, with Stewart Freeman officiating. Rod will be laid to rest in DeQuincy, LA. Honoring Rod as pallbearers will be Greg Endel, Mark Pridy, Tod Markamson, Barry Butler, Ray Turek and George Schwartz. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Randy Farris, Lee Copeland, Mike Thomas and Rod Maricelli. Special Thanks: the Hyatt family would like to express our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of lovingkindness towards Rod - from friends, church members, and the medical staff at both Highland Hospital and Willis-Knighton North Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Bossier KIDS at 2125 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana 71111.
