SHREVEPORT, LA - Services celebrating the life of Agnes Madora Matthews Saddler, 94, will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Rev. Peter Gaughan, Associate Pastor of Broadmoor United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery, Center, TX. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Agnes was born March 4, 1924, in Evelyn, LA to Jennie Burns Matthews and Aaron Dolphus Matthews and passed away April 7, 2018, in Shreveport, LA. She graduated from Cotton Valley High School. After completion of high school she then served in the WAVES in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon returning to Shreveport Agnes attended Meadows Draughan Business School and Centenary College of Shreveport, LA. She was married to Col. Glen Saddler who preceded her in death. Agnes retired from Sherwin-Williams Paint Co. and received numerous rewards from the local business community. She was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Agnes was loved by everyone who knew her and was always there to help in any way she could.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Fred Matthews, Drew Matthews, Aaron Matthews and sister Jean Brasher. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Vada Kirk, Lottie McGuire, and Betty Lundy; nieces, Cindy Paul, Teri McGuire, Harriett McGuire, Lydia Matthews and Jyoti Parks; nephews, Les Kirk and Art McGuire; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robert Lay, Thomas Lay, Billy McGuire, Tommy Paul, Chris Kirk and Jason Kirk.
