Agnes Louise Turnage Hattaway

Agnes Louise Turnage Hattaway was born on October 15, 1934, in Tallulah, Louisiana to Thomas Newton Turnage and Daisy Mae Dean Turnage. She was married to the love of her life, James Don Hattaway, for 72 wonderful years, until her passing. She began her eternal life in heaven on July 15, 2024, at home with her family in Keithville, Louisiana, at the age of 89.

Agnes retired from the AT&T manufacturing plant in Shreveport after more than 20 years of service, where she worked in many roles as an assembly line technician. She was a dedicated, hard worker in all that she did, but nothing brought her more joy and fulfillment than sharing God’s love and promise to others. As an ordained minister, she visited many churches across the southern states. She continued her ministry by reaching out and corresponding with prisoners all over the country. She gave words of encouragement, faith, hope, and love to an immeasurable number of people throughout her life. She loved gardening, shopping and visiting family. Her generosity was unmatched. There was nothing of greater importance to her than her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother to three generations of grandchildren. She was the very best storyteller and made up the most incredible songs. She was so full of love, laughter, and resilience, and she touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed, cherished beyond words, and remembered always.

Agnes is preceded in death by both her parents; daughter, Donna Clements; sisters, Evelyn Yee, Jean Pittman, Virginia Turnage, and Lela Bowyer; brothers, Thomas and Jim Turnage; grandson, Ricky Bryant Hattaway; great-grandson, Benjamin Ensign; and great-great-grandson, Caleb Hawthorn.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, James Don Hattaway; son, Ricky Hattaway and wife, Karen; daughter, Karen Burnell and husband, Andy; sisters, Mardella Coates, Betty Perkins, and Sue Leaton; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services for Agnes will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr. Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery West, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Pastor Mark Constance. Honoring Agnes as pallbearers will be Aaron Coffey, Kevin Ensign, Mike Hattaway, Bubba Hattaway, Dustin Hattaway, and Jacob Hattaway. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Doug Carter.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St. Joseph Hospice and the nurses at Willis-Knighton Pierremont Medical Center, for their tremendous care and compassion. And special recognition to her daughter, Karen, for her devotion to caring for Agnes, in her time of greatest need.
