A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the service at 2:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Buck Furlow.
Albert was born on August 13, 1939, in Mansfield, Louisiana to Albert Peter Lafitte and Ethelene Benjamin Lafitte and passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, in Shreveport. Albert was a resident of Keithville, Louisiana and a graduate from C.E. Byrd High School. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Joyce Carpenter in 1959 and remained married 48 years until her death in 2006. They raised three children, John, Sherry, and Richard.
Albert was in the construction business doing excavation work his whole life and loved his job. He got to drive a tractor and dump truck most days. He also learned to weld from his Uncle Mack at a young age and was good at it, so he started building trailers as a side job. He could fix just about anything from cars to equipment, you name it. In his younger years, he loved hunting, fishing, and camping with his family in the summers. He would work all week and drive back and forth to Caney Lake in Minden, Louisiana. Many people may not know this, but he also liked to play pool, and he was pretty good at it. He had a pool table in his shop and taught his kids how to play when they were in high school. After his wife passed away in 2006, he moved in with his oldest son, John, and spent many years helping John run his tree business that many of you know as Lafitte’s Tree Specialist and helping to raise his grandchildren. It kept him busy. He would run a tractor by day and haul grandkids in the evenings and on weekends and loved every minute of it. He took the boys hunting and the girls shopping for whatever they needed, he was there. He lived with his daughter, Sherry, and husband, Derek, part-time since 2018. He became well known in the Clarksville community by meeting a lot of folks through his daughter, church, and just talking to people in general whether it was at the dollar store, local pharmacy, grocery store, tire shop or mechanic shop. He would drive around town to see what was going on and stop by and visit with folks. Everyone knew Albert and loved him. He was the kind of man that would help anyone anytime without asking for anything in return. He loved “to talk” about cars, sports, news and really anything you could think of. He kept up with current events and news and was pretty sharp about things. He made the trip from Clarksville, Texas to Shreveport on November 5th because he wanted to go in person to vote. Albert was loved by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
One of the most important things we all knew about him was that he loved the Lord and his family and friends very much. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church from the time he married Joyce in 1959 and still was to this date. He also attended Akin Grove Baptist Church with his daughter when he was in Texas and loved all the church family. He would often talk about the Lord, and he knew he was going to be with him one day. He was very thankful for his life and how many years he had on this earth.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Joyce Lafitte; son, John Edward Lafitte; sisters, Flora Anne, Agnus, and Catherine; brother, Danny Eugene Lafitte; and nephew, Jerry Mitchell Corley.
