HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mr. Albert "Red" Shirey, Jr., 88, in the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer, LA on Friday, October 2, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Thurman officiating. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.
Mr. Shirey was born June 8, 1927 in Weldon, LA to Albert Shirey, Sr., and Fannie Green Shirey. He entered into rest Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in Homer, LA following a short illness. Mr. Shirey served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was part of the Seabees. He was employed with Ludlow Corporation working in sales with 38 years of service. Mr. Shirey was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt quail and ducks. He was also an avid golfer.
Mr. Shirey was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Inez Shirey Gray.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mable Nicholas Shirey of Homer; one daughter, Vickie Shirey Pittman and husband Larry of Carthage, TX; two grandchildren, Courtney Pittman Tebo and husband Chuck and Chase Pittman and fiance' Jamie Gentry; two great-grandchildren, Corbin Tebo and Ethan Tebo; one niece, Carolyn Roberts; along with numerous great nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Chris Gray, Wayne Gray, Jeff Roberts, Jay Roberts, Chase Pittman and Chuck Tebo.
Honorary pallbearer were Sonny Collins, Lanier Deese, George Dixon, Freddie Fuller, Jimmy Wright, Bob Thompson, Ben Malsam and James Robert Michael.
In lieu of flowers for friends considering memorials to Mr. Shirey, his family suggests First Baptist Church of Homer, LA or donor's choice.
