HOMER, LA: Funeral services for Alene Meyer Zey, age 102, were conducted at her grave site in Arlington Cemetery Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 4:00 p.m., with Deacon Mike Wise of St. Jude Catholic Church of Benton, LA, officiating. She was born on November 13, 1917, in Prairie Home, Missouri, the second child of Nicholas and Gertrude Meyer. She entered into rest on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, in Homer, LA. Mrs. Zey was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Henry August Zey;her brother, Ben Meyer and sister-in-law, Lillian Meyer; her son-in-law, James Dowies; her granddaughter-in-law, Bethany Ferrell; and her grandson-in-law, Jeremy Norment.Alene is survived by her two sons, Jim Zey and Frank Zey and wife Jimmie; her four daughters, Mary Zey and husband Steven H. Murdock, Betty Zey McClung and husband Kenneth, Joyce Zey Dowies, and Rose Zey Butcher and husband Dennis; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Prater and husband Keith, Cheryl Zey, David Zey and wife Rebecca, James Ferrell, Michael McClung and wife Elizabeth, Marcus McClung and wife Tammy, Cindy Dowies Norment, Sam Dowies and wife Liz, Shawn Harmon and wife Le'Erin, Carmen Simeon and husband Jamie; 25 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Serving as pallbearers were Keith Prater, David Zey, James Ferrell, Sam Dowies, Jamie Simeon, Marcus McClung, Michael McClung and Shawn Harmon.Alene was an active member of Saint Margaret Catholic church for 68 years and a recipient of the Bishop's Service Award for her work in the church.Alene's family would like to express their gratitude to the following; Doctors Scott and Mark Haynes, Claiborne Family Medical Clinic, Claiborne Rehabilitation staff and Regional Hospice for their many years of care.A special thank you to Betty Simmons, Lola Faulk, Betty Haynes, Katie Foster, Shirley Prince and Ruby Heard for their dedicated loving care.For friends considering memorials honoring Alene, the family suggests St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital, Arlington Cemetery Fund or donor's choice.
