Alice Benita Barkley
Alice Benita Trangmar Barkley went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 6, 2017, leaving behind a beautiful legacy and a family that will cherish her memory.
Mrs. Barkley was born February 7, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to parents Elmer Trangmar and Thelma Clanton Trangmar. Mrs. Barkley lived her formative years in Corpus Christi, Texas, and she always considered herself a Texas girl. After moving to Shreveport and while attending Fair Park High School she met the love of her life, Gordon Stanley Barkley, whom she eventually married and they celebrated 56 years together.
Mrs. Barkley was a living testimony to God's definition of a person with a servant's heart. Countless young lives were touched by her devotion to teaching and working with youth at Ingleside Baptist Church as well as caring for babies in the nursery. Everyone who came in contact with her met a woman who lived out her faith with a kind and giving spirit. After decades of membership at Ingleside, the Barkley's moved to Bethany and were faithful members of the Baptist church there.
In her work career Mrs. Barkley served over four decades working for Mr. Jim Serra at the Mutual of New York Life Insurance Company. Whether her activities involved family, church or work she always lived by the motto \"she tried\", and that is how she would like to be remembered. Mrs. Barkley is survived by three sons, Eric Barkley and his wife Shannon of Bossier City, Gregory Barkley and his wife Samantha of Shreveport, and Geoffrey Barkley of Shreveport; seven grandchildren, (Matthew, Hannah, Abigail, Jacob, Anna Grace, Emma Katherine and Kyle); a brother, Reese Trangmar; and a sister, Carolyn Plants. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home (Southside). A graveside service will take place at 12:00 p.m., on Monday, July 10, 2017, at Providence Cemetery in Spring Ridge, LA., officiated by Reverend Crawford Williams.Past Services
