Mrs. Alice Lorena Walker Shreveport, LA- Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Lorena Walker, 83, will be held on January 4, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA. Visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Officiating will be Reverend Thomas Hill, Pastoral Care Minister of Gateway Church in Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. Mrs. Walker was born on October 20, 1934 in Omaha, Texas to the late Charley Winston and Dixie Aleen Fletcher, and entered into rest on December 31, 2017 in Shreveport, Louisiana. A graduate of Daingerfield High School, Daingerfield, Texas, Lorena married Billy Joe Walker, a member of the U.S. Air Force, in 1960 and moved to Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, where their son, Charles, was born. Their daughter, Susan, was born while the family was stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Lorena worked as an executive secretary at Izmir Air Station, Turkey; England Air Force Base, Louisiana; and Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, during the time her husband was stationed at those military installations. In 1975, Lorena began her career at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Shreveport, LA., where she worked first as the ward clerk on the SICU unit and then as tumor registrar for many years until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Gateway Church. She enjoyed singing, sewing, gardening, puzzles and spending time with her family. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Billy Joe Walker. Left to cherish her memories are her son, Charles Walker and wife Vergie of Shreveport; daughter, Susan Walker Collum and husband Michael of South Jordan, Utah; and her beloved grandsons, Bradley Nixon Walker, David Alexander Walker, Jack Walker Collum and William Michael Collum. Pallbearers will be Bradley Walker, Jack W. Collum, David Nixon, Grant Cherry and Jack E. Collum. The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Manor Stratmore and Life Path Hospice Care Services.
