Alice S. Walker

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of Alice S. Walker, 75, will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Rev. M.L. Agnew officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time at 12:00 noon. Alice was born January 12, 1941 in Texarkana, TX to Chester Fred Simmons and Lillie Elaine Shaddix Simmons and passed away after a lengthy illness on August 21, 2016. She had a long career as a bookkeeper, and worked at St. Marks Episcopal Church for 16 years until she retired. Alice was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Lillie Simmons and her sister, Patricia Bath. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Benny Walker; her daughter, Robin Walker; sister, Jonnie Edwards; brother Fred Simmons and his wife, Diana; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, and her precious poodle, Bailey. The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Anil Veluvolu, Willis-Knighton Cancer Center staff and Willis-Knighton Hospice for all the care, love and support they gave to Alice.
