IDA, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Alton Carter, age 89 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Line Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 8182 Rodessa-Ida Road in Ida, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Joe Brown assisted by Bro. Leymoin Wiggins. Interment will follow at Line Creek Cemetery, Ida, LA. There will be a time of visitation on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 705 S. Spruce Street, Vivian, LA from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Mr. Carter was born in Ravanna, AR on July 23, 1926 to George Washington and Mary Elvira Sprayberry Carter and passed away on May 15, 2016 at North Caddo Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was a faithful member of Line Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since October 9, 1960. Mr. Carter was a pumper in the oilfield industry and was a veteran in World War II serving the in US Marines.

Mr. Carter is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Carter; his beloved wife, Syble Addie Carter; brother, Mack Ray Carter and sisters, Mary Lee Durette, Junie Farmer, Bessie Lee Davis and Ida Mae Slay. He is survived by his loving daughters, Wanda Kay Herring and husband, Rufus of Ida, LA and Alice Kirkland and David Kirkland of Pineland, TX; sister, Bertha Lee Hazel of Doddridge, AR. Mr. Carter is also survived by his grandchildren, Tammy Lynn Harris and husband, Dub, Jr., Michael "Kirky" Kirkland, Michelle Kirkland, Timothy Herring and wife, Lindsey, Kristi Stanfield and husband, Steven and Sherry Jeter and husband, Casey; great-grandchildren, Dusty and Kassie Harris, Tristan Wheeler, Tyler Rose, B. T. Herring, Jake Paulette, Mikah Enterkin, Baleigh and Rylen Stanfield and Aaron Jeter.

Honoring Mr. Carter as pallbearers will be Timothy Herring, Michael "Kirky" Kirkland, Dub Harris, Jr., Steven Stanfield, Casey Jeter, Dusty Harris and Tyler Rose.
