Alvin J Broussard, Jr., 80, of Shreveport, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 25, 2024.
Johnny was born on October 26, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Alvin J. Sr. and Ruth Arie Broussard. Johnny graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1962. For 40 plus years, by day, he successfully owned and operated Broussard Painting. But at night, his favorite hour, he was a rhythm and blues man. His true love was music and he and his saxophone could really tell a story. This God given talent took him from teenage garage bands to the big stage. From The Bill Bush Combo at the Moulin Rouge to The Jerry Beach Band and the New Orleans Jazz Fest and later the International Jazz Fest in Montreal. Maybe you caught him playing at the Revel, Freddy Macks or Lee’s – or with The Sidemen or Harmon Drew Band. He was a member and agent of the Federation of Musicians Union, Local 116, supporting the live music industry for the better part of his adult life. Live Music is Best. In 1998, he was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame of Musicians.
Johnny was a man of faith and a great friend to many. He is preceded in death by both parents and an older brother, Billie Joe. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Sansom and husband Joe, grandson, Mason and several cousins.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Intensive Specialty Hospital North for their valiant efforts. And a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice and the Guest House for their compassion, love and prayers during his final days.
Memorial services will be held at Rose-Neath Southside at a later date.
