With sadness, the family mourns the loss of Amy Beatrice (Goldman) Morris who completed her journey on June 12, 2024, just two months shy of age 98. Amy was born on August 9, 1926, to Isadore L. Goldman and Nellie L. (Levison) Schwartz who lived in Shreveport, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Edward Morris, who was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia and by her sister, Sally (Goldman) Friedman, a life-long resident of Shreveport.
Amy is survived by her son, Howard Cary Morris (1948), son I.L. “Lonnie” Morris (1951) (and Suzanne), daughter, Marilyn Risa Morris (1960) (and Deb), grandson, Lon Patterson Morris (1985), granddaughter, Amy Suzanne Morris (1995), niece, Harriet “Bootsie” (Friedman) Amiel, and niece, Rozanne (Friedman) Shemwell.
Except for the first few years of her marriage to Edward in 1947 when they lived in Atlanta, GA, Amy had been a life-long resident of Shreveport. Born at the Highland Hospital, she graduated C.E. Byrd High School where in her junior year she was president of a Jewish sorority. In her senior year, her sorority sisters elected her president of the home economics club even though she had no home economic skills at the time. Her freshman year at college was at the University of Texas. She kept in touch with her roommate for many years. It was during the depression thus she finished her college years at Centenary College of Louisiana where she obtained a degree in Psychology. As a member of B’nai Zion Congregation, she served as president of the Sisterhood and the Shreveport chapter of Hadassah. She took great pride in writing fun filled skits for the two programs which the attendees would laugh with her as she laughed at herself. She was active in the PTA and PTSA for 24 years and was always very supportive of the teachers of her children. All her children took swimming lessons and music lessons. She was active in the Band Parents Club at Byrd and Captain Shreve where every year she would support her children when selling fruit cakes and candies to raise funds for their cause. In the work arena, she took great pride of her work at the Welfare Department for Bossier Parish.
Amy will now rest in peace with graveside services at the Hebrew Rest III Cemetery (also known as the Greenwood Cemetery Jewish Section), 130 E. Stoner Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana next to her husband, Edward, who she dearly adored at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, June 16, 2024. Officiating the service will be Rabbi Dr. Jana L. De Benedetti.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her care-giver, Velva Jefferson, who has provided loving care to Amy over the past 10 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to B’nai Zion Congregation, 245 Southfield Rd., Shreveport, LA 71105 or to any charitable organization or house of worship of your choice in her honor.
