Arnold was born on January 29, 1933 in Chestnut, Louisiana to Garlan Dallas Norman and Edith Godwin Norman. After graduation from Readhimer High School in 1950, he attended Northwestern State College for one year before enlisting in the U. S. Air Force in October, 1951 during the Korean Conflict. Upon release from active duty in October, 1955, he returned to Northwestern and graduated in May, 1958 with a degree in Business. He remained a member of the Air Force Reserve until finally retiring in 1993.
After graduation from college, Arnold was employed by Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company (Arkla) in Shreveport and served in various capacities until retiring in 1992 as Corporate Secretary. He was first employed by Arkla in the Gas Accounting Department, where he met and fell in love with Charlotte Bethany. They were married on August 8, 1959.
Arnold was a member of Springs of Grace Baptist Church where he served in various capacities for over 40 years. He loved reading and studying God’s Word, and had memorized hundreds of verses. He was a kind and humble man affectionately known as “Paw Paw.” He was a devoted husband, father, and son and he found great joy in serving others. He enjoyed his early morning walks in University Terrace for decades, quietly serving his neighbors by picking up trash and moving newspapers to their doorsteps.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ray Norman, sister, Maxine Edwards, twin infant sisters Ann and Nan Norman, sister-in-law Nancy Bethany, brothers-in-law Jerry Bethany, Buster Edwards and Fred Parker. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Norman, son, Mark Norman and his wife, Lin, daughter Bethany Carter and her husband, Stephen, sisters-in-law, Wanda Norman, Sandra Parker, Sharon Shaver and husband, Butch, thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home-2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana 71118. Officiating the service will be Rev. Jeff Segner.
