Ava Nell McWhorter

Funeral services celebrating the life of Ava Nell McWhorter will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at Antioch Baptist Church in (Dixie Inn) Minden, Louisiana under the direction of Rose Neath Funeral Home in Minden, Louisiana. Officiating will be Bro. D.J. Thomas. Interment will follow at Rocky Springs Cemetery in Lisbon, Louisiana.

Ava Nell was born February 14, 1930, in Homer, Louisiana and entered her heavenly home October 14, 2023, in Homer, Louisiana. Ava was a life-long servant and loving mother. She served in the Air Force Reserves as a Major for 15 years; registered nurse and instructor at Northwestern University; missionary in Gaza for over 20 years; and Mayor of Dixie Inn for 16 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Williams (Michael), sister, Pat Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ava Nell is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Stella McWhorter, sisters, Mavanee Suggs, Sarah Louis Herberling, and Sylvia McWhorter Baten, and brothers, Raymond Grady, Mavis Grady, Leland Connelly, Eugene, and Wayne McWhorter.
