SHREVEPORT, LA - Barbara Underwood Delony, 78, went to meet her Heavenly Savior Thursday April 21, in The Woodlands, Texas after moving there recently to be close to her son, and only granddaughter. Funeral services will be held for Barbara at 12 Noon, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home.
She was born an only child on November 20, 1937 in Waco, Texas. She was a resident of Shreveport, LA for 68 years. After graduating from Byrd High School in 1955 she attended LA Tech where she met the love of her life and big man on campus - Henry "Red" Delony. They were happily married for 39 years until he preceded her in death in 1997. While at Tech she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, after leaving Tech, she continued her involvement by becoming one of the founding members of the Alpha Chi Omega alumni chapter in Shreveport. Barbara served as president of the PTA at Sunset Acres, Oak Terrace and Woodlawn during their sons' school years.
She served as Cub Scout Den Mother and as Youth Director at Wynn Memorial United Methodist Church, influencing many young lives. She was a long time bookkeeper and secretary, ending her career serving as secretary at Christ United Methodist Church where she was a long time, active member. She also served in many roles in UMW and cherished singing with the Joyful Noise senior choir. Barbara served as President and active member of the Shreveport chapter of the LA Homemakers Association. She also enjoyed serving lunches with Meals on Wheels. Her passion for travel took her to many countries around the globe. Her favorite pastime was playing bridge; she loved nature, and had an incredible green thumb, growing orchids and various other flowers in her green house.
Barbara is also preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Smith Souter of Shreveport. She leaves behind her loving family, including son, Henry "Hank" Delony, Jr., his wife, Cynthia Gardner Delony, of Montgomery, TX and her granddaughter, Camille Nicole Delony of The Woodlands, TX, her son Jeffrey Scott Delony of Bossier City, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
