Jerry Hodge and Stuart Freeman, ministers of the University Church of Christ, will officiate the service. Barbara Howard was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on August 10, 1942 to Clifford and Nell Migues Hunter, and was raised by her loving grandparents, Emmett and Elma Hunter. She passed away on May 28, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana at age 78. Barbara graduated from New Iberia High School where she was a Rainbow Girl. She attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette for three years while majoring in education. She married Don Howard in July 1963 and they moved to Millington, Tennessee where Don was stationed in the United States Navy. They lived there until Don's enlistment ended and then moved back to New Iberia. After transferring around a bit with Don's oilfield job, they moved to Bossier City in 1967. Angie was born just months after the move, and David was born a few years later. One morning while Barbara was dropping the kids off at school, the principal approached her in the drop-off line. He asked her to watch a class of kids for a while since he was having trouble finding teachers. He returned about three hours later and saw how good she was with the class and asked her if she would consider substituting. She taught as a substitute in many schools as her children aged into their high school years, most of the time in their classes. After her kids were in college, she enrolled at Louisiana State University in Shreveport where she was on the Dean's list while she continued substitute teaching. At 54, Barbara earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education, thus fulfilling her promise to her grandfather to complete her college degree. Barbara taught at Hillsdale Elementary 2nd grade for one year, and Kindergarten for 14 years, loving all her children. As technology advanced and the curriculum changed, Barbara found she did not like computers nor common core, so she retired to spoil her four grandchildren. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Hunter and Nell Courtois; maternal grandparents, Neuville Migues and MomVin; and paternal grandparents, Elma and Emmett Hunter. She is survived by her husband, Don Howard; daughter, Angie Howard; son, David Howard his wife, Dena and their children, Genavieve, Brooklyn, Ryker, and Vivian Howard all of Bossier City, Louisiana; siblings, Dianne Munger and her husband, Jerry of San Diego, California, Cindi Fremin and her husband, Corbette, Vickie Guidry and husband, Sonny, Harold Courtois, Jr. and his wife, Debra, Albert Courtois, and Timothy Courtois, all of the New Iberia area; cousin but more like sister, Cynthia Arthur of West Monroe, Louisiana; brother-in-love, Larry Howard of Marysville, California; sisters-in-love, Mary Schroer and husband, Ron of Tipton, Missouri and Nina Cramer and husband, Don of Kansas City, Missouri; as well as many nieces and nephews.
