A graveside service for Barbara Jean Peevy Rice, 91, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend Andrew Brewster.
Barbara was born on January 9, 1932 O.G “Grady” and Myrtle Franklin in El Dorado, Arkansas and passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023 in Dallas, Texas.
Jean spent her youth in Stamps, Arkansas, where she attended high school and met her first husband, A.L. “Lynn” Peevy. After high school, Jean moved to Shreveport, where she and Lynn married and had two sons. Due to her husband’s work, they lived in several Texas cities including Euless, Houston, Amarillo and finally Mesquite, before returning to Shreveport in 1979. Jean worked for Western Electric before changing to a career in the medical field. She retired from Schumpert Hospital after 15 years as an admittance admin. After marrying her second husband, Max Rice, she moved to Cypress Black Bayou, where they enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling. In her later years, Jean moved to Bossier and became a beloved member of Shreveport’s Chick-fil-A staff, as their dining room hostess. For over 50 years, Jean was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also an active member of Airline Baptist Church for the last 10 years. Jean loved arts and crafts and was especially adept at sewing, quilting and crochet.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, A.L. “Lynn” Peevy; second husband, Max Rice; brother, Bill Franklin and wife, Valera and sisters, Betty Teague and husband, James, Sue Teague and husband, Carl and Kathryn Hurley and husband, James. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Larry D. Peevy and wife, Melody of Texas and Michael L. Peevy and wife, Sharon of Arkansas; grandson, Russell J. Peevy and wife, Kim of Texas; granddaughters, Robyn L. Knight and partner, Mark Thorne of Texas and Jenna E. Robins of Louisiana; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
