Beatrice Stephens Pickett

August 22, 1931 — May 12, 2024

Beatrice Stephens Pickett

Our beautiful mom was born on August 22, 1931 and died on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

She is remembered for her sterling character, her grace and generosity of spirit, and her terrific sense of humor. She had a full life during her 92 years, and all her children were able to spend time with her in her last days. She has 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom survive her. She is preceded in death by two husbands, John Pettey and John Pickett; her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Born in poverty in rural Mississippi during the Great Depression, she overcame difficulties and disadvantages and built a good life. Her faith and her church were dear to her, and most of her adult life revolved around her work and relationships there. Among those who knew her well, a particularly cherished memory is her acceptance and love for those who had made mistakes or suffered misfortune - she was a woman of great grace.

She raised her children to treat everyone with kindness and dignity, to endure any difficulty with perseverance and hope, to treasure the good things in life with gratitude and humility and to be a person of discipline and integrity. That was her.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 2:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, Family Life Center Fireside Room 9333, Linwood Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Dr. Steve Pettey, Reverend Chris Young and Reverend Price Harris.
