It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin Felix Hood, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left us peacefully October 28, 2024. He was born August 14, 1926 in Bastrop, Louisiana to John Thomas Hood, Sr. and Fannie Quinn Hood. Ben lived a life filled with love, duty, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
A proud veteran, Ben served honorably in the Navy during World War II, embodying the spirit of dedication and courage that characterized this significant chapter in history. In 1948, he married Susie, and together they shared 76 wonderful years together.
Professionally, Ben enjoyed a distinguished career, retiring after 45 years as the East Texas District Manager of United Gas Pipeline Company. His work ethic and integrity earned him respect among peers and employees alike.
Ben was not only devoted to his profession, but also to his faith. A member and former deacon of Broadmoor Baptist Church, he nurtured his spirituality and served his community with love and commitment. His unwavering faith served as a foundation for his family and those he encountered.
Ben was fondly known to his grandchildren as “Papaw Bennie” or “Mr. Papaw”. He had an unparalleled ability to make every moment special, always willing to do anything for them. His love was a guiding force in their lives, creating memories that will forever be cherished.
He is survived by his wife, Susie, son, Keith (Cindy) Hood, granddaughters, Stephanie Hood Noel (Brady) and Amy Hood Lloyd, great-grandchildren, Brayden Noel, Caroline Lloyd, Bella Noel, and Shelby Lloyd.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Emma Ruth Treadway, John “Jack” Thomas, Jr., and Furniss Quinn Hood, and son, John Michael “Mike” Hood.
Throughout his life, Ben exemplified kindness, strength, and wisdom. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the love he shared. He will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A graveside service honoring the life of Ben will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024 located at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, LA 71108. Officiating the service will be Rev. Steve Munds.
The family would like to thank LifePath Hospice for the excellent care provided in the last few days. Special thanks to Jennifer and Jane for their compassion and kindness during this difficult time. We would also like to express our gratitude to Jennifer Cypher for taking great care of Benjamin for the last 15 years.
