Bernice Madden Box

Bernice was born November 13, 1921 in Hall Summit, LA to Thomas Lee and Gussie Martin Madden; and went to be with our heavenly Father on June 6, 2017, at the age of 95. Funeral Services for Bernice Box will be held at Springhill Baptist Church on Saturday June 10, 2017 at 11:30 am with Brother Tom Smith officiating. Graveside service will be immediately following. Visitation will be held Friday June 9, 2017 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home 5-7 pm, family visitation at 4 pm. Also there will be visitation at 10:30 am on Saturday, at the church prior to the service. Bernice worked hard all of her life. She helped raise her three younger siblings after her father passed away and went on to raise five children of her own over the next forty years. She was a very loving mother and grandmother who loved to cook for her friends and family. She was a godly woman. She read her Bible every day and has read it cover to cover at least nine times. At Springhill church, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was a WMU leader and worked with VBS and the summer camp. She also cooked for a summer mission camp in Nevada for several summers for underserved children. She enjoyed owning her own clothing store, The Box House, in Coushatta and Leesville. She enjoyed the customers and the community. She was very social and had many friends. She loved to have people over and was renowned for her card playing skills. The last few years she has been at The Glen nursing home and greatly enjoyed her bingo games and being her building's soda machine. A highlight of her time there was when she was crowned the first Queen of the Magnolia House at The Glen. We are so grateful she was happy there. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband B.B. Box, Jr, and granddaughter Sandy (Van Dyke) Podliska. She is survived by her children, Barbara Van Dyke and husband Carroll, Thomas Box and wife Sallie, Lynda Box, Debbie Self and husband Jody, and Rhonda LeGrande and husband Luke. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gary Van Dyke and Ellen, Randy Van Dyke and Cherie, Ken Van Dyke and Denise, Becky Vrba and Steve, Chris Van Dyke and Stephanie Haney, Sabrina Bauer and Jay Nelson, Alaina Box and Robert Noland, David Warren and Melinda Perkins, Brian Warren and Shannon, Nikki LeGrande, Dylan LeGrande, twenty-three great grandchildren, and fifteen great-great grandchildren. Honoring Bernice as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Randy Van Dyke, Ken Van Dyke, Chris Van Dyke, David Warren, Brian Warren, Dylan LeGrande, and Christopher Davis. The family would like to thank the staff at The Glen, especially those in the Magnolia House, for their tender loving care for Bernice. You made her feel like she was everyone's favorite, and for that we are forever grateful.
