Rambin, LA- Bernice Flores Chamberlin, "Joan", of Rambin, LA passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from natural causes at the age of 88. Funeral Mass honoring her life will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 12:00 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rambin, LA with Father Matthew Long officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Rambin, LA. Vigil and recitation of the rosary will be held Monday, April 18, 2016 at 7:00 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield. Visitation will follow the rosary.
Joan was born on September 4, 1927 in Rambin, LA. She graduated from Pelican High School in 1944. She received her nursing certificate from Shreveport Charity Hospital in 1948 and worked there as a registered nurse. On October 15, 1949, she married her sweetheart, Philip R. Chamberlin, Jr. In their 66 years of marriage, they had 5 daughters and 6 grandchildren. She was an active volunteer at Holy Ghost Church and School in Houston. After retiring, they returned to their home in Rambin and she spent the past 32 years as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, walking in the woods of Rambin, and spending time visiting with friends and relatives. She was an active volunteer at St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Catholic Churches. She made their house in Rambin into a welcoming home for family gatherings and she will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Philip R. Chamberlin, Jr.; parents, Adolph and Kathleen R. Flores; brothers, Adolph A. Flores, Jr., Louis B. Flores ("Shorty"); sisters Lenora Jane Trudeau and Teresa Davis; and daughters Gwendolyn Chamberlin and Anita Chamberlin.
She is survived by brothers Carl Flores of Grandview, TX and Pat Flores and wife Sissy of Edmond, OK; three daughters, Bernadette and husband Jeff Palmer of Pfafftown, NC; Diane and husband Paul Galvin of Dallas, TX, and Amy and husband Sean Wood of Houston, TX; six grandchildren, Philip and Andrew Palmer, Alicia Smith and Claire Galvin, and Glen and Hannah Wood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Rambin and Mansfield communities for their support over the years, and especially to the ladies who supported and cared for Joan in the last few years: Gloria Jean Joyce, Martha Fox, Ester Holmes, Katherine Matlock and LaTasha Holmes.
