Bertie Ruth Matthews

Funeral services for Bertie Ruth Matthews, 96, will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana at 10:00 a.m. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, Mississippi.

Bertie was born on August 20, 1926 in Bude, Mississippi to Henry and Lucy Wilson and passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a short illness.

She was a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana and faithfully attended The Simple Church. Bertie was a homemaker who loved her family dearly. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Matthews; daughter, Jessie Rae Perkins and infant daughters, Gloria Ruth Matthews and Patsy Jean Matthews. Her memory is survived by her sons, Bobbie Matthews and Carl Matthews and wife, Lynda; special daughter-in-love, Pam Penny; grandchildren, Carla McKinney, James Kevin Bell  Christopher Matthews, Patsy Davis Smith, Kenny Ray Perkins, Richard Perkins, Timothy Perkins, Tina Matthews and Shey Matthews; great-grandchildren, Dylan McKinney, Alex Bell, Kristen Frey, Cody McKinney, Blake Davis, Brian Davis, Peyton McKinney, Jaxon Matthews, Marcus Fennell, Andre’ Matthews, Alyssa Fennell and Tasha Ramos and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Live Oak Skilled Care for their care and compassion.
