Shreveport, La - A celebration of life for Bertrand Wilbur (Smitty) Smith, 86, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Drive, with Reverend William Blakely officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the funeral home.
Smitty was born on March 2, 1929 to Bertrand Charles and Edna Florence Smith in Detroit, MI. He passed away on December 5, 2015 in Shreveport, La. Smitty served in the USAF as a Staff Sergeant before enjoying a thirty year career with United Gas Pipeline. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Shreveport Lodge No. 122, member of Fair Park Lodge No. 436 F.&A.M., Shreveport, La, and also a member of American Legion Post No. 14, Shreveport, La.
He was preceded in death by wife, Patsy Beauchamp Smith, and daughter, Andrea Smith Tatum. He is survived by his daughters, Karen Ogden and husband John, Dana Johnston and husband Dwaine, grandchildren, Meredith McGovern, Kimberly Duet, Mark Ogden, Zach Jackson, Kyle Tatum, Jamie Lynne Tatum, great-grandchildren, John Patrick and Addison McGovern, siblings, Judy Eckroth, and Barbara Mackey.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in the memory of B.W. Smith to Louisiana Methodist Children's Home, or Mangum Memorial Methodist Church.
