Beryl Allen Young, Jr. was born August 22, 1934 in Hermleigh, Texas to Beryl Allen Young, Sr. and Minnie Ara Eaton Young. He went home to Glory on December 17, 2023.
Beryl “Pap” is survived by his three children, Patti Stowell (Mike), Cheryl Connella (Mark), Richard Young (Sara); brother, Marvin Ray Young (Karen); 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Alice “Fert” Nell Anderson Young; parents, Beryl Young, Sr. and Minnie Young; and great-grandson, Barrett Anthony Boggs.
Upon graduating from Ajax High School, he received a scholarship to play basketball at Northwestern State University. He decided to forego his scholarship and started his career as a young man at Foremost Dairy for almost 20 years. He then began a career with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department for over 22 years ending in the District Attorney’s office as a Lieutenant as Court Liaison alongside Paul Carmouche.
His life was full of family and friends that he loved to always be with, which showed his passion, love, and BIG heart for people. He loved to have his grandchildren at his home and going to his most favorite place on earth, Lake Whitney, Texas for the Eaton Family Reunion. He had the most vibrant personality, and it was reflected in everyone he met. He served as a deacon and loved to greet at Summer Grove Baptist Church. He was always the first one there to get the morning coffee going for his Sunday School Class he loved.
Pap was extremely CHRIST-LIKE, and he always welcomed all people into his family. He never met a stranger. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met both in his career and personal life. He became known as “Uncle Beryl” to friends and family in life. His very presence brought peace and joy to so many people. His love for life was contagious, and he will be missed, but we know he is now with his Savior and the Love of his life, “Granny Fert.”
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 with a celebration of “Pap’s” life on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Both will be held at Rose-Neath Southside, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport following the service. Officiating will be Reverend Mike Stowell assisted by Larry Alton with music.
Honoring “Pap” as pallbearers will be Nicholas Connella, J.P. Brawley, Jr., Chad Brawley, Michael McFerren, Josh Weir, Walker Boggs, Marty Young, Jared Stowell, and Nathan Stowell.
The family would like to thank Michelle Duncan and the staff of Garden Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate and loving care of our Dad.
