Graveside services for Bessie Olive Butler “Bobbie” McLeod, age 95 will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Huffines Cemetery in Huffines, TX. Officiating the service will be Bro. Rick Daniels. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 705 S. Spruce Street, Vivian, LA
Mrs. McLeod was born in Vicksburg, MS on March 6, 1929 to Walter Elijah Butler, Sr and Helen Edna Smith Butler Fair and passed away on November 24, 2024 at her residence in Belcher, LA after a recent illness. She was a member of Belcher Baptist Church where she loved to hear her Grandchildren singing Praise worship. Mrs. McLeod was once town clerk for the Vivian Police Department. She also was known as the “Driver’s License Lady” who worked at the DMV all over Northwest LA, where she retired after 20 years of service. She loved to sew and was an expert seamstress known for making elaborate Barbie Doll wedding gowns and doll dresses of all types. She enjoyed sewing for her family the most. She created and gifted many purses, sweaters and blankets for friends and family. Her gift for music was well known throughout the family. She had a beautiful voice and learned to sing Shaped Note music as a young lady. She also loved to play the piano. She graduated from Northwest State University with a degree in General Studies. Bobbie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-great grandmother who cherished her time with family especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. McLeod is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul McLeod; son, Paul R. McLeod; brother, Walter Butler, Jr.; step mother, Helen Butler; grandson, Bobby Ray Hawks and wife Christy Hawks, sons-in-law, Jon F. Hawks, Sr and Gary Steven Leon. Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters, Elise Hawks; Cathy Staton and husband, David; Karen Janelle Leon and Shawn Riddle; 6 grandchildren, Jon F. Hawks, Jr and wife, Vicki; Beau Bryant Hawks; Jessica D. Staton; Caitlin B. Staton; Jeff Leon and wife Misti; Rachel Leon and Grand-puppy, Pico. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. The family suggests memorials be made to the Belcher Baptist Church Youth Group, P. O. Box 205, Belcher, LA 71004.
