Bessie Louise Johnson Powell was born January 4, 1923 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to William Wesley and Ruth Fason Johnson. Bessie went to her heavenly home on November 20, 2014 in Shreveport, Louisiana where she had resided for several months. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 24, 2014 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Leslie Ford Powell who died January 4, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a brother and three sisters. Her sister Johnnie Sandra Morris and her husband Tommy Morris of Tuscaloosa survive her. Bessie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Powell Semon and husband, Harold of Shreveport, and a son Leslie Donald Powell of Tuscaloosa. Additionally, she was the proud grandmother of Leslie Anna Bankston of Tuscaloosa, Susan Louise Buhrer of Shreveport, Jennifer Ruth Risinger of Seattle, Kristy Lane Locklear of Tuscaloosa, and Leigh Fason Oswalt of Tuscaloosa. She has ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Bessie was from a large extended family which includes many nieces and nephews who were special to her. She loved her family and friends and was always a support to anyone who needed her. No one has given more and expected less. She was a loving mother and a beautiful person. Special thanks is extended to Hazel Thomas, Reverend Paul Marshall, St. Joseph\'s Hospice, and many friends who made Bessie\'s life end peacefully with the knowledge that she was going to her eternal life. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorials be made to the charity of donor\'s choice.
