Funeral Services for Bette Jean Wexler Turner, 89, will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home 2201 Airline Drive Bossier City, Louisiana at 10:00 a.m. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens 451 Highway 151 N Calhoun, Louisiana at 2:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Brother Tommy Patton.
Bette Jean Wexler Turner was born on October 20, 1934, to Willard “Bill” and Rebecca “Becky” Wexler in Dallas, Texas, and passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Bette grew up in several cities throughout Texas and graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, Texas in 1952. She married James Elton “Bud” Turner on October 26, 1952, and remained by his side until he passed away on January 9, 1990. She began working for State Farm Insurance in Dallas, Texas shortly after marrying Bud while he was serving in the Army. She had her son Anthony “Tony” Turner on February 28, 1956, and then her daughter Merilee Turner Shamsabady on February 7, 1961. They moved from Texas to West Monroe, Louisiana in 1968 when transferring to the new State Farm Regional Office opened in Monroe, Louisiana. She retired as a payroll specialist after 35 years of service.
She moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1992 and moved to Bossier City, Louisiana in the early 2000s.
She did a lot of volunteer work both in West Monroe as well as in Shreveport Bossier for many different organizations such as Ouachita Senior Care Center in West Monroe, LA Christus Schumpert Hospital, Mercy Center, Northwest Louisiana Senior Olympics, and Cypress Baptist Church.
She attended church regularly all her life and taught Sunday school, worked with youth groups, sang in choirs, as well as anything asked of her. She attended Cypress Baptist Church for the last several years until moving into Bloom Assisted Living when she was no longer able to drive.
She wasn’t a fan of sweating but thoroughly enjoyed crocheting word searches, and puzzles. She collected music boxes from all over the world and enjoyed the challenge of finding the ones that played unique music. She had over 137 of them at one point.
Bette Jean Wexler Turner was preceded in death by her parents, Willard “Bill” Wexler and Rebecca “Becky” Wexler; husband, James Elton “Bud” Turner; and son, James Anthony “Tony” Turner. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Merilee Turner Shamsabady and husband, Moe; daughter-in-love, Frankie Lynn Turner; grandchildren, Jamie Turner, Jennifer Turner, Quinton Shamsabady and wife, Audrey and Andrew Shamsabady and wife, Dacia; great-grandchildren, Kalyn Randall, Riley Gordon, Mason Conner, Ava Turner, Zara Shamsabady, Bryce Shamsabady, Jozelynn Shamsabady, Jovie Shamsabady, and Slayde Shamsabady.
Honoring Bette as pallbearers will be Tony Mack, Andy Sibley, Moe Shamsabady, Andrew Shamsabady, Riley Gordon, and Mason Conner.
Since Bette lost the five most important men in her life, her father, husband, son, brother, and brother-in-love to cancer, The family suggests that memorials may be made to American Cancer Society P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
