Graveside services for Betty "Polly" Palmer will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport, LA. The visitation is 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA. Officiating the service will be Sr. Pastor Reverend Joe Donakey from Summer Grove United Methodist. Polly was born on October 8, 1928 in Camden, Arkansas to Oscar Marvin Bell and Lillian Burton Adelia Gaines and passed away Saturday July 4, 2020 in Bossier City, Louisiana. Polly graduated with a degree in Home Economics and Bachelor of Science in Education from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She retired from Sears where she was a supervisor of the catalog department for 20+ years. She also sang in the choir at Live Oak, loved joking and laughing with family and friends, and was extremely active in the UMW at the church. She was also a Girl Scout Leader. She was a loyal friend and had kept in touch with some friends since first grade. Polly and Ralph enjoyed many trips around the U.S. and Canada in their travel trailer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Ralph M. Palmer; son, Ralph McCoy Palmer, Jr. and sister, Marvine Davis. Left to cherish her are daughters, Vickie Palmer and Debbie Palmer Buckingham and husband, Gregg and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews who often referred to Polly as " their favorite aunt". In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials made be made to Summer Grove Methodist, 9119 Dean Rd, Shreveport, LA 71118, March of Dimes, 1214 Shreveport Barksdale Hwy #625, Shreveport, LA 71105, St. Jude's Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or any animal welfare organizations. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the medical staff of Regional Hospice in Bossier City, especially Debbie, Pam and Dr. Patton and Bloom at Bossier for their care and compassion for our mother. Serving Mrs. Polly as honorary pallbearers will be Gregg Buckingham, Cecil Colon, Jr., H.R. Palmer, Jr., W. Lynwood Palmer Jr., Donald R. Davis, John Ritchey, David Davis, Rob Davis, Michael Davis, Addison Davis, Aiden Davis, Weston Ritchey, Drew Ritchey, Robert Hendrick, Kermit Polling and Jed Graybiel.
