Betty, affectionately known as Mamaw, passed away on October 13, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 83. She was born on April 1, 1941, in Shongaloo, Louisiana.

Betty was a people person and loved her job as a waitress at several restaurants in Shreveport before joining the wait staff at Piccadilly Italian Restaurant in 1963. Her children, Robert and Jeannie, will tell you that she would often bring home the amazing pizza and the Brocatos cannolis! She worked there for over 20 years. She loved her customers, especially the theatre community. She won Patron of the Arts award along with the Restaurant back in 1981 which was such a thrill for her. She attended play after play from The Marjorie Lyons Playhouse and The Peter Pan Players and brought family along to enjoy with her.

Betty was also a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Even though this has left a huge hole in our hearts, we are filling them with so many memories and thoughts of her countless caring and selfless acts. If a friend in her senior community became ill, she was quick to bring them some home cooked food and a kind word. Treasured for her love of and dedication to her family, friends and customers, she also enjoyed arts and crafts, trips to play the slots with her sister, her wonderful cooking, the legendary mashed potatoes and pork roast dinners, and beating us constantly at Scrabble.

Betty was the chauffeur on countless family trips. She was very skilled at it, but the main reason was she hated being a passenger. She was not afraid of a little adventure along the way to visit family and events. Songs were sung loudly, and laughter often erupted.

She is survived by her children, Jeannie Rene Varuso and Robert "Bobby" Ramey; her grandchildren, Alan, Daniel, Joshua, Tiffany, Hannah and Nicolas; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Savannah, Olivia and Caroline. Betty was preceded in death by infant son, Kevin Pickett; her parents, Nettie and Robert Pickett; siblings, Leroy Pickett, Howard Pickett, Marie White and Daphne Martin.

Honoring Betty as pallbearers will be Robert “Bobby” Ramey, Nicolas Ramey, Alan Martin, Logan Martin, Joshua Martin, and Will Ebarb. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Jack Varuso.

Contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society in Betty's memory. This gesture will continue her legacy of giving and supporting others in need.

The family extends their gratitude to Hill Crest Memorial Park and Rose-Neath Funeral Home South for their compassionate assistance during this time. Mom's kindness, wisdom, and love-filled nurturing spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
